5783 Passover & Feast of Unleavened Bread—Plan of Redemption and Road of Sanctification
In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at twilight ( between the two evenings), is the LORD’s Passover. And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the Feast of Unleavened Bread to the LORD; for seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. (Lev. 23:5-6)
Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” And He took a cup, and when He had given thanks He gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” (Matt. 26:26-28)
The Passover is the first feast that LORD God set for the Jews (Exo. 12:1-11). No matter how many ups and downs they have gone through, the Jews keeps this feast to this day that they might not forget God’s mighty salvation to all generations. The Passover is not only for the Jews but a hidden plan of redemption that the LORD God has for mankind.
In Exodus 12, God said to Moses that He was to bring punishment of striking all the firstborn in Egypt. At the same time, He clearly instructed the Israelites ready to come out of the land of Egypt. On the fourteenth day of the first month, they first slaughtered a lamb and then took some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses. That night sounds of mourning and crying were over the land of Egypt, Pharoah urged the Jews to leave Egypt immediately. And the Jews well prepared and that was their first Passover. Immediately after that, God asked them to eat unleavened bread seven days, which is the Feast of Unleavened Bread written in Lev. 23:6
Slaughtering a lamb and smearing its blood on doorposts and lintel is to separate the Jews from their identity as slaves; also it means that they are no longer of Egypt so as to escape from God’s righteous punishment. Leaven was not allowed to be found in the process of getting out of Egypt, meaning regard God’s commands without any doubt. ‘Without leaven’ also symbolizes to put away all thoughts, values and habits and so on that are not after God’s heart.
The LORD God calls the Jews the ‘LORD’s hosts,’ for its their original identity. God had long ago chosen them as His people to first inherit the heavenly statutes and laws and apply them on earth. However, they went through a long process of ‘cleansing out leaven’ and eventually there were only very few of them entering the promised land.
The next day John (the Baptist) saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (Jh. 1:29)
Jesus Christ is the Lamb of the Passover, replacing us for the punishment of death and rebuilding the relationship between man and God that we may reconciliate with God through believing Him. Moreover, when we receive Jesus as our personal Savior, God’s calling for us is that His will be done on earth as in heaven, that we might inherit the promised land. Therefore, after receiving salvation, keep obeying God’s word. Jesus Christ is The Word of God (Rev. 19:13). He Himself also said in the Last Supper “This is My body, which is given for you” (Lk. 22:19). Always keeping a life without leaven is to enter sanctification and be a vessel after God’s heart, as well as in the process of accomplishing God’s will.
God who loves us told us thousand years ago through the Jews that man cannot cross over the gap of sin in man’s way. Jesus became the Lamb of the Passover and the Holy Spirit becomes our Helper and Advocate to keep us walk in the truth.
Jesus fully fulfilled the heavenly Father’s plan of redemption, which is the meaning of the Passover—the memorial day for God’s people and children.
Meanwhile, God’s calling is irrevocable, we shall pray for the Jews more urgently.
Ask God to awake the Jew’s hearts, through the supernatural way that they may recognize Jesus is the Messiah whom they await.
Ask God to bless the Messianic believers that they may receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire and have power to live a life witnessing for Jesus and testifying the word of the Lord.
